Now, even the blind people can read text messages. Thanks to this very helpful Nokia application, everyone can now receive text messages, understand them, and even reply to them. Called the Braille reader application, this new Nokia app uses state-of-the-art technology to specifically help the visually impaired.
The Braille reader nokia application uses the phone’s vibration mode as it attaches this function to the tool. Every time a text message is received by the phone, this new Nokia app would automatically translate it into the Braille language, which in turn, will be relayed to the blind user via a series of long and short vibrations.
The Nokia Braille Reader application would opens up whenever a text message is received by the user. However, the program has to be activated for it to work. And that is simply done by touching the phone’s screen. When done so, the application would start reading the text message that was received, one letter at a time, in Braille and then translated through vibration. If the user would like to pause the letter-by-letter reading of the text message, he simply has to lift his finger off the phone screen.
This new Nokia app was developed in Finland by the Tampere University. Together with the Finnish Federation of Visual Impairment, the application is now easily available to all visually-impaired individuals who want to take advantage of it.
Right now the program is in beta format but it is available for free. Download it and see if it would work for you. This Nokia app can only be used by phones that have both the vibration and the touch-screen feature.
