You are about to see the near future in mobile computing and how powerful it can be with the Nokia N900. Smartphones have been advancing more through the years. The Nokia N900 starts out looking like just about any other modern smartphone on the outside. It resembles products from Apple and from Motorola. You can copy and paste to your heart’s content. You can do so many things that you really must get one of these N900s in your hands to see it all.

There are other improvements over the last Nokia flagship. The last model, the N97 was a bit slow thanks to anemic memory. There is no such problem with the N900. You can open application after application and the N900 will stay “springy” and responsive. The processor hums right along at 600 Megahertz and is an ARM Cortex A-8 model. The speed of the processor and one Gigabyte of application memory is a winner. Not only that, there is 768 Megabytes of virtual memory and 32 Gigabytes of internal storage. You can increase the storage memory up to 16 Gigabytes with a MicroSD card. Just to see an example of the storage capabilities, you can store 7000 MP3 songs or 40 hours of DVD quality video. That is a good bit of memory.

The screen on the Nokia N900 is a beauty and the size is equal to or larger than the competition. The size is three and half inches. If you want you can use the screen to type with, you can because it responds to touch. If not, you can use the slide out hardware keyboard. It slides out from the side not the bottom like many mobile devices. This gives you enough space to type. The keyboard also has directional arrows since this is truly a computing device. The icons are crisp and clear thanks to the 800 by 480 pixel resolution.

The N900 is also a phone in addition to all the other things it can do. It can access quad band GSM and tri band WCDMA. It has all the expected features of a cell phone with call waiting and full call logging abilities. It is due to be used with the T-Mobile carrier. It does come with bluetooth and a handy FM transmitter. This is a real treat because you can use the Nokia N900 to hear your music over your car radio. Nice !

The camera is also primo with a five Megapixel resolution. The camera has the special Tessar lens and Carl Zeiss optics. You will be able to protect this little jewel, because the camera was thoughtfully provided with a sliding cover. You can also take video with this camera. It has a TV-out ( PAL / NTSC ) connection with the included cable so you can hook the N900 directly up to your television. The battery is of a good size ( 1320 mAh ) and is removable.
