Some strange things happen without evening noticing. A firmware update is one of the things to look forward to when you own your smartphone as it brings improvements across the board. Nokia has silenced a particular update until someone had spotted a difference. When you bought your Nokia 5800 with it’s first available firmware, the CPU clock speed on the device was 369MHz.
From device sw version 20.0.012 onwards. Update your device using Nokia Software Updater.
- Notes on the Nokia 5800 spec page.
Two firmware upgrades later, the Nokia 5800 is now running at 434MHz. Why is this important? You will see some performance enhancements with your phone and should speed up your phone a tad. We have to ask the question though… why did Nokia release such a phone when they could improve it for the official launch? Many are arguing they are overclocking the processor but surely it would bode better if they held on for a little while and released it with better firmware.
It’s also important to note that not everyone is getting a sturdy 434MHz on their Nokia 5800. Some are varying but we can safely say that Nokia are working on improving the speed of our devices. The Nokia 5800 now sits at around the same speed at the Nokia N97.

why did it take you so long to come up with this story
the real questions which should be asked are:
What are you talking about? sturdy 434mhz?
everyone running the v20 firmware got 434 now.
there is no tool which could tell us the actual speed of the cpu.
x-plore states it as 192mhz and phoneinfo still says 369mhz.
Those tools aren’t able to check on the cpu information properly for some reason.
but there’s the jbenchmark java benchmarking tool which estimates the speeds.
most people trying that tool got ~389-402 Mhz.. I called out on people on the dailymobile forums with a v11 firmare to run the test too… one of the guys says it showed ~320Mhz.
Why did they keep it secret until a few days ago?
Well I guess they underclocked the cpu because they wanted to fix some performance/power issues. the arm 11 is capable of 600mhz due to it’s specifications, but that would probably catapult it into shitty iphone-battery-life-areas.
why aren’t there any changelogs for those firmware updates?
also the 5800 doesn’t sit at around the same speed of the n97… check some benchmark comparison videos on youtube… the 5800 is just as fast. but the n97 seems to perform better in normal use…
so where is the software optimization which make the 5800 run smoother, get the n97 effects and kinetik scrolling? also there is no excuse to keep a better homescreen from the 5800 users, since the 5530 already has one… and now the 5800 is officially as fast as the 5530 and the n97.
At least I’m not pissed anymore about the 5530 getting a faster clocked cpu than the 5800 has it…
Well that’s a lengthy comment reply.
I only read about the CPU being improved today as I don’t have a Nokia 5800 anymore, I thought it would benefit a lot of users as many may not have noticed it was improved.
They should make these things more public, I agree. It would increase sales for tech fans like ourselves as we understand what improvements in these areas do. It’s only a matter of time (maybe a long time) before Nokia release firmware updates that fulfill all our needs because they won’t survive without providing answers to our wants.
maybe they were afraid that more people wouldn’t get the ridiculously overpriced n97 if they knew that it’s just as good (besides the hardware-qwerty and the better software (optimization) which obviously is just being kept from us by intention.)
The software on the N97 seems a little more responsive if I’m being honest but I understand your point about having the 5800 more optimized and therefore hopefully improving the software.
Nokia are just on a slowboat and it’s taking them a while to sort theirselves out!
i think it was partly down to this and partly down to the “newness” of s60v5 when the 5800 was released
Yeh but I see the N97 has slightly improved touch and also seems a little different to the 5800. I can’t pin-point where but it’s something that I’d like to see put on the 5800 for other users.
Well, the true for me about the speed is now with the V30… is really more faster than my ex V20 (RM-428 never had V21).
And the U$D 900 “N97″ is the “why” the upgrade was in a cold silence.
hello every one, i’m havnign nokia 5800 cell i’m facing a problem tat mi phones cpu speed is running @ very slow rate. plz give mi any solutions…..plz plz plz
