Google Reader Widget by NokiApp

greadericonI was getting a little fed up of having to load the bookmark in my internet browser on my 5800 so I decided to create a widget. It’s important to me as a blogger that I’m up to date on the latest news. The good thing about Google Reader on your computer and phone is that you read a post within the web page and nothing new opens so this makes it perfect for my widget. This widget loads google.com/reader and displays as much of the page as possible. It also has a shiny widget icon that you can choose to display on your homescreen or you can simply leave it in your applications folder (shown left). Where I am a regular user of Google Reader, I like it because it shows the same feeds if I connect on my phone or my laptop. It saves refreshing feeds on your phone and Google Reader provides the overall quicker and neater experience. Check out my guide on managing your RSS feeds on your phone with Google Reader.

No problem, as I said I’m a regular user too and something like this speeds up the process of viewing my feeds. Try to let as many people know about it as possible :)

I’ll give this a try, I too use google reader daily but usually read my feeds using Snaptu as it lets me post them to twitter and facebook, be useful as a backup though ;)

I tried Snaptu but did not like it. I’m using the widget a lot now!

download not working on mobile device. Recieving file rather than app.
Thx.

I would recommend that you download the file to your computer and copy across via USB cable. It should download the .wgz file, I don’t know if it will install properly from the website.

you receive the file on your device and then instead of opening it straight away you have to go to the phones file manager and click on the downloads folder. from here you can click the widget and it’ll install

I followed Dan’s instructions but I do not get any installation, I just get my web browser opening up automatically and going to the site mentioned. I do not see any additional widget icons installed in my applications folder. Also the bbclive tells me that my n97 is not supported when it launches the website. Am I doing something wrong?

Does the widget actually open the N97’s web browser or just load the web page in a similar way to the screenshot above? There is no icon in your applications folder after installing the widget? I will have to look at this in more depth.

I installed this app/widget on my N97 and it is not loading. When it opens it asks to open a network connection and when I select yes all I get is a blank white screen. Nothing loads at all. Under options the only choice I have is to exit.

Works great for me but is it possible to get rid of the ask everytime for network connection?

afraid its to complicated to remove that. even the proper widgets such as the offical facebook one in ovi store asks the same question :( its really annoying though i agree!

See original is no longer working for me. I click on it, the phone vibrates for the keypress but it does not launch the browser.

I’m not planning on any fixes for this widget quite yet until I work out a couple of things, apologies.
