So my Orange contract ended earlier this week and I received my Nokia 5800 upgrade yesterday. I have made the decision my beloved N82 hoped would never happen…
Thats right, I have fallen in love with everything to do with Nokia’s first touchscreen device. My N82 has submissively made its way into the dark corner of my computer desk despite the fact that up untill yesterday morning I was hell bent on putting the 5800 on eBay as soon as I received it. I was reluctant to concede that the glamour of the new S60V5 OS would persuade me to make the jump from the old trusty S60V3 UI I had grown to love over the past couple of years with my N73 and N82.

Anyway, onto the making of my decision. I received the upgrade Wednesday morning and was expecting the Red version of the device but was presently surprised to open the box and see the Grey version. The Grey version of the device, in my opinion, gives the phone a much more sophisticated look. As you may know, Carl has the Red 5800 and based on the odd play around with his one I had came to the decision it would be better for me to wait for another couple of months untill the release of the N97 in June. I planned on either eBayin’ the upgrade or selling it to my brother but now it looks like it’ll be my trusty N82 on eBay sometime in the near future.
When you turn on the 5800, from the word go it just oozes class. A little word of advice is to keep the vibration on for easy feedback each and every time you press a button, link, number etc, otherwise you will get frustrated with the amount of mistakes you’ll make to begin with. Other than this I wouldn’t say I have found many flaws in the design or software as of yet. One thing I would like Nokia to implement, prehaps in a future firmware update, would be the ability to use widgets on the homescreen (as demonstrated on the upcoming N97 ). The availability of Facebook updates and other useful information available at a glance would be a great addition.
My N82 has proven to me over the past year that it is by far Nokia’s best S60 phone to date, always reliable and versatile enough to adapt to life’s everyday situations.  However, I feel now is the time to jump on the band wagon and try something new, therefore untill late June at least, the 5800 is going to be my device of choice.
Check back in a couple of days when I shall compose a list of my favourite features on the 5800.
